This is the new toy in town and everyone is eager to know more about it. ChatGPT is one of the most trending topics right now. It was launched on November 30, 2022 and people’s minds are being blown with what it can do. It’s also breaking records with over 1 million users signed up in just 5 days. According to blog.invagate.com. ChatGPT gained 1 million users in under a week. The chatbot accumulated 57 million monthly active users in its first month of availability. It surpassed 100 million active users in January 2023. In this article, we will discuss what ChatGPT is, how it works and how it affects education.

ChatGPT is an AI chatbot system that OpenAI released in November to show off and test what a very large, powerful AI system can accomplish. You can ask countless questions and often will get an answer that’s useful. For example, you can ask a question like, “List 10 healthy snacks for kids’’. To my surprise I got an interesting list of healthy snacks which I love. ChatGPT’s main function is to provide the user with information he or she may have otherwise been unable to obtain through other sources.

My experience with ChatGPT 

1. It is easier access to resources, allowing me to access information on demand whenever I need it most. I use this app to generate ideas or questions for my lesson. It is simple! I type a question like ‘ How to teach setting to Grade 1 students?’ and a comprehensive list pops up, giving me tips on how to engage my students in a fun learning experience (considering the class).
2. ChatGPT answers questions to my topics for my articles and recipes. I get detail and essential content in minutes which otherwise would have taken me days to research. I use it to create any kind of text, including blog posts, essays, and program code. Once I obtain this data from ChatGPT, I add on my research and publish articles.
3. I can instruct it help me with my coding issues. I was able to set up my own website with some guidance from ChatGPT.  The instructions given by the bot are clear and easy to follow with little or no tech background. It gave me accurate instructions to follow when I needed to integrate my website www.abigailworkshere.com to other platforms.
4. As an education consultant, when my clients ask for information about universities or colleges, I use ChatGPT to gather my facts and figures. This information can be categorized into a chart or table, pros or cons etc. I am able to respond to my clients at a faster rate. Example of graphs I have used from ChatGTP are pie chart, area chart, histogram and bar graph.
5. I think it is better than a search engine. I can utilize ChatGPT to find straightforward, uncluttered answers to queries. This improves efficiency and accuracy.
